Why can't we all get along like this?

I got this from a friend:

This is a link to a very short video of a homeless guy in Santa Barbara,
California, and his pets. You can see these guys every week working State St. for donations.

The animals are pretty well fed and mellow. They are a family.

The man who owns them rigged a harness up for his cat so she wouldn't have to walk so much (as the dog and he do). At some juncture the rat came
along, and as no one wanted to eat anyone else, the rat started riding
with the catâ€”and often, on the cat!

The dog will stand all day and let you talk to him and admire his
altruistic "we are one" personality for a few chin scratches.

The Mayor of Santa Barbara filmed this clip and sent it out as a
Christmas card.

Pretty amazing isn't it? Especially since the rat just 'showed up'? Since it's not a street (wharf) rat it looks like someone's lost pet to me...The music is pretty cheesy but oh well...
I'm just sayin'...

That's cute. It does definitely look like a pet or an escaped lab specimen and not your basic street rat. UGH. Our neighbors used to have this HUGE long haired cat and we had a cocker spaniel, so they were about the same size. They got along so well. The cat used to come over to our house, lay on the stool in the living room and our dog used to lick her until she was just sopping. Then she would flip over and let the dog lick her other side. It was pretty funny.

I think it just goes to show if we are all raised with love, we can all get along, no matter what are back ground is.

I wonder if the mayor paid the homeless man for letting him be used in his Christmas cards?...or what if anything is being done so the man and his 'family' isn't homeless. I hope the mayor helped him, otherwise he is being some what hypocritical with his...If they can get along why can't we.
